Novelist and criminal lawyer William Deverell won the Dashiell Hammett Prize and two Arthur Ellis Awards for his gritty legal thrillers. Street Legal: The Betrayal is based on Deverell's long-running Canadian crime drama Street Legal, which was revived with a new cast in 2019.
